James John
Born: 1809
Where: USA
Died: 1886
Where: Portland, Multnomah County, Oregon
James John is the founding father of St. Johns the small city that was located on his Land Claim property in North Portland. He donated the land that houses the elementary school (James John) named after him, and also the Library across the street. He and his wife died childless, so it was his hope that all children would benefit. Portland the city eventually annexed St. John's abt. 1936 but today many of the businesses still have the name sake in their titles, and the school and library still remain a testament of his love of children and education.
