Families of Historic Columbian Cemetery

Martha Lister

Martha Adeline Dempsey Lister

Born: January 4, 1879
Where: Nemaha County, Nebraska
Died: May 13, 1907
Where: Portland, Oregon

Martha Adeline Dempsey was born in Nemaha County, Nebraska, to Charles Dempsey and Eva Steel. They called her Addie. After her mother's death in about 1890, the family moved to Oregon.

In 1901 she married James Allen in Adams County, Washington. It isn't known whether James died or they divorced. In November of 1905 she married Clarence Lister in Portland, Oregon.

On May 6th, 1907, she went in labor and on May 8th delivered a stillborn baby boy. Martha died on May 13, 1907, and she and her baby were buried in Columbian Cemetery. The actual burial site has not been found.

In December of 1907 Clarence Lister married Addie's stepsister, Leona Frances Miller.
