Thelma Dempsey
Born: July 30, 1906 In 1909 the Dempseys lived in rural Cecil, Oregon. They traveled to Portland to visit their daughter and son-in-law in late July of that year. Thelma became very ill the day after her third birthday. Dr. Canfield attended her until her death on August 3rd. She died of cholera morbis, which is now thought to be appendicitis. The other children were told she died from eating green apples.
Services were held at the M E Church on the corner of East 10th and Riggen Streets in Portland. Her funeral cost $33.00. She was buried at Columbian Cemetery. A wooden cross marked her grave. The exact site has never been found.
